The Loxton-born teenager kid named Alex Carey is a footballer turned cricketer. Initially, he carried both cricket and football but later completely switched to the top-order batsman. After his failures, he turned a wicketkeeper-batsman and bats at lower order. Carey made his first-class debut way back in 2013 but he had to take time to adjust himself in the shield cricket. His extraordinary season with the bat and gloves earned him a call for 1st eleven. In season 2016-2017, Carey came to the limelight and scored 500 runs and over 50 dismissals which caught the eyes of selectors.
Carey made his T20I and ODI debut in early 2018 but he had to wait 3 years for his maiden Baggy Green cap. Being in competition with Matthew Wade in white-ball and Tim Paine in red-ball cricket, but his brilliant performances in 2019 earned him a place in the World Cup squad. while batting at lower order, Carey performed well throughout the campaign and was named as a wk batsman in the ICC team of the tournament. After the suspension of Tim Paine, Carey received his test debut cap from legend Adam Gilchrist during Ashes 2021-2022.
