The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has imposed a travel ban on former Sri Lanka cricketer Sachithra Senanayake, who is under investigation for match-fixing allegations.
The court order was issued on August 14, 2023, after the Sports Corruption Investigation Unit (SCIU) filed a complaint against Senanayake. The SCIU alleges that Senanayake contacted two cricketers during the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in 2020, via telephone from Dubai, to fix matches.
Senanayake has denied the allegations and is currently out on bail. The travel ban will remain in effect until the investigation is completed.
If found guilty of match-fixing, Sachithra Senanayake could face a lengthy prison sentence. Match-fixing is a serious offense that undermines the integrity of the game. The Sri Lankan cricket authorities are committed to rooting out match-fixing and ensuring that the game is played fairly.

The travel ban is a significant development in the case against Senanayake. It prevents him from leaving the country, which could make it more difficult for him to interfere with the investigation. The ban also sends a strong message that match-fixing will not be tolerated in Sri Lanka.
The investigation into Sachithra Senanayake is ongoing. The SCIU is expected to question other players and officials who may have been involved in the match-fixing. The case is likely to take some time to be resolved.
