Pradip Kumar Banerjee was an Indian professional footballer who performed as a striker for the Indian national football team. He was born on 23 June 1936 and died on 20 March 2020. He also skippered the national team and became the national team’s coach afterward. Banerjee represented India in 45 official games and secured 15 official goals for the country.
In 1961, He was one of the first recipients of the Arjuna Award when instituted. In 1990, he got the prestigious Padma Shri and was appointed Indian Footballer of the 20th century by IFFHS. Banerjee got the FIFA Order of Merit, the greatest honor awarded by FIFA.
On 20 March 2020 at 12:40 p.m. P.K Banerjee died due to age-related issues, having been on life support at a Kolkata hospital since 2 March. He also had an essential history of Parkinson’s disease, dementia, and heart problems.

P. K. Banerjee Earlier Life –
On 23 June 1936, Banerjee was born in Jalpaiguri in Bengal Presidency (now West Bengal) British India. He completed his education at Jalpaiguri Zilla School and his schooling at K.M.P.M. School in Jamshedpur.
At 15 years old, Banerjee represented Bihar in Santosh Trophy by performing right-wing.

At the age of 15, P.K. Banerjee represented Bihar in Santosh Trophy, performing in the right-wing. He moved on to Kolkata and signed Aryan after he moved on to represent Eastern Railway In 1954.
After four years, he debuted for the national team in the 1955 Quadrangular match in Dacca (presently Dhaka in Bangladesh), East Pakistan (currently the capital of Bangladesh).
He represented India in the 3-Asian Games – 1958 in Tokyo, 1962 in Jakarta, India won the gold medal, and 1966 in Bangkok.
In the 1956 Summer Olympics held in Melbourne, he was a performer for the national team. Recurring injuries forced him to drop out of the national team and retire in 1967.
