Surkumar has completed his graduation from the prestigious Tata Football Academy in 2000. After then he joined the East Bengal F.C. club. Now, he plays for United Sikkim F.C. in the Second Division of the I-League. He is a professional Indian footballer who plays as a defender for India.

    Only 13 years of age, he was impressed at the under-16 level while playing for Manipur under-16; Tata Football Academy hired Sukumar. He spent 4-years in TFA and used to perform as a centre back. Surkumar also made his international debut in 2001 in the significant 1-0 win over UAE in a 2002 World Cup qualifier.

    After joining his first professional agreement with East Bengal, he was changed into a right-back by then-East Bengal coach Syed Nayemuddin. That shift brought the best out of Surkumar as he performed a key role in East Bengal’s first-time National League title.

    I-League Second Division In 2013, he had opened the scoring for the Mumbai Tigers F.C. in their last game against Bhawanipore F.C. in the 3-5 loss.

    He achieved the victory in the Kolkata League with Mohun Bagan in his first season and will be a significant player once he returns from international duty. He has been a regular for the national squad since the 2005 SAFF Cup triumph. The attacking right wingback has freely been India’s best performing player in that position in the last decade. With very few fullbacks in the country, Surkumar can score goals, especially from long range. He has 4-international goals to his name, with the latest one coming in the 3-6 defeat against Yemen in Pune.
