After joining his first professional agreement with East Bengal, he was changed into a right-back by then-East Bengal coach Syed Nayemuddin. That shift brought the best out of Surkumar as he performed a key role in East Bengal’s first-time National League title.
I-League Second Division In 2013, he had opened the scoring for the Mumbai Tigers F.C. in their last game against Bhawanipore F.C. in the 3-5 loss.
