The fast bowler has decided to move away from the further format to focus more on short-overs cricket. The 27-year-old, Although, has not ruled out a potential comeback to red-ball cricket at a later time.

Curran clarifies his preference by saying that the past 2 years have been tough for him. The speedster stated that he needs to focus solely on the Energy T20 Blast this year as he does not think his body is all ready for the County Championship matches.

Surrey Cricket took to social media platforms to upload an official declaration regarding the statement on Wednesday, February 1.

“The last few years have not been smooth for me,” Curran said. “I have had a whole lot of time and this isn’t a resolution that I’ve taken lightly. Some choices in life I don’t think you will always be 100% sure and this is certainly one of those. But where I find myself at this exact moment, I feel like it is the right decision for my body and for my mental health.”

“I’m certainly not ruling out playing red-ball cricket again in the future, and I feel like I have unfinished business in this format for both Surrey and England,” he added. “But until I can think 100% committed and confident in my body to be playing day in and day out for Surrey in the County Championship, I feel that putting all my time and focus into our Vitality Blast campaign this year is the right thing to do.”

Tom Curran has signalled his intention to take an indefinite break from red ball cricket in order to prioritise his physical and mental health.

Curran, 27, will streamline his schedule as he attempts to keep his body strong for the rigours of white ball cricket.
