Reports say that England skipper for the limited over formats, Eoin Morgan is likely to announce his retirement this week itself.
Eoin Morgan has played 248 One Day Internationals and scored 7701 runs at an average of 39.3 and a strike rate of 91.2. Also, he has played 115 T20 Internationals and scored 2458 runs at an average of 28.6 and a strike rate of 136.2. He only played 16 Test games in his career and managed to score 700 runs at an average of 30.4. England Captain Eoin Morgan.
Morgan has been one of the most successful skippers for England considering the fact that he led them to win the 2019 World Cup which is the team’s only ICC trophy in their history.
Morgan has not had a good time with the bat in recent times and he has also been struggling with his fitness. In the last 28 innings that he has played for England, he managed to score just two 50+ scores.
He also went unsold in the IPL 2022 auction after a very poor run in the IPL 2021 where he captained the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Recently, Morgan said that he would consider retiring from the game if he feels he is not contributing to the game.
“If I don’t think I am good enough or I don’t feel I am contributing to the team, then I will finish. That’s just the way I am and I hope that rubs off on the team. Your leader doesn’t have to be selfless; they can be whoever he or she wants to be, but I feel this is a better way of doing things,” Morgan had told Sky Sports ahead of the Netherlands series.
It is likely that Jos Buttler would take over the captaincy responsibilities in case Morgan takes the important decision of retiring.
