The IPL is finished with CSK becoming the champions for the fifth time former Indian Star Sunil Gavaskar opens up and shared his views on India’s upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final, where India will play against Australia at The Oval from June 7-11, He said the biggest challenge for India will be to quickly adapt to the English conditions after being engaged in the rigorous two-month long IPL at home. This is the second time India has qualified for the Test Championship final and has a golden opportunity to bring the trophy home. A total of 13 players from India’s current WTC squad participated in IPL while 4 players from Australia took part.
The Legend also said Rahane has displayed very good form in domestic cricket, Gavaskar considers him to be one of the crucial members of India’s batting line-up stating “he has a point to prove” Rahane was dropped from the team in January 2022.
Sunil Gavaskar Said;
“He’s got a lot of experience having played in England, having scored runs in England. So, yes, I think he is going to be crucial down at number 5. And yes, I do believe he has a point to prove, I still feel he has got plenty of cricket left in him, and this is a wonderful opportunity for him. I’m hoping he will be able to grab this opportunity with all the experience that he has and make a place for him back in the Indian team,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports show Follow the Blues.
“The biggest test will be the fact that just about everybody will be coming out of a T20 format, and Test cricket is a longer format. So, I think that’s going to be the big challenge,” he said.
“They have only Cheteshwar Pujara who has been playing in the English County Championship, so he will be the only guy who has played the longer format in these conditions, so that’s going to be the big challenge for them,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports show.
