Any fan of Indian cricket would agree that the 2008 Slapgate controversy involving legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and pace bowler S Sreesanth has to be one of the most controversial incidents in the history of Indian cricket.
This happened in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2008, which was the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league, Harbhajan Singh, who was then the skipper of Mumbai Indians had slapped Indian pacer S Sreesanth, who was then playing for the Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings).
Now, after more than a decade has passed after the controversy, Harbhajan has admitted that it was a big mistake that he made in the heat of the moment.
The image of Sreesanth crying after the incident is still very popular and almost fresh in the minds of the fans of the game.
While throwing light on the slapgate controversy, Harbhajan told that the thing that happened in IPL 2008 should not have happened and he made a big mistake. He further added that he regrets slapping Sreesanth.
“What happened was wrong. I made a mistake. Because of me, my teammate had to face embarrassment. I was embarrassed,” Harbhajan said at Glance LIVE Fest.
“If I had to correct one mistake, it was how I treated Sreesanth on the field. It should not have had happened. When I think about it, I feel there was no need.”
