England recorded a crucial 20-run victory over New Zealand to further hammer Australia’s opportunity to qualify for the semi-finals.
England defeats New Zealand in an important T20 World Cup 2022 clash on Tuesday (November 1) to boost their opportunity to progress to the semi-final round. England has now been established in the 2nd position in the Super 12 Group 1 table with 5 points from the opening 4 games. New Zealand is still dominating the first place with 5 points but with a grand net run rate.
Australia’s 89-run beat against New Zealand in their primary game will definitely hurt them: Wasim Jaffer
New Zealand is possible to register an easy victory over Ireland but both England and Australia need major wins in their last fixture to increase their net run rate. The former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer thinks that Australia’s 89-run defeat against New Zealand in their starting clash will hurt them and he advises England and New Zealand to progress from Group 1.
“Jaffer believes Australia’s 89-run defeat against New Zealand in their initial match will absolutely hurt them as their net run rate remains deficient. Even if all 3 teams( Australia, England, and New Zealand) win their final match, and if anyone registers a very big win then it will be an unlike thing, but England and New Zealand will go through.”
“England (who plays the last game) have the advantage that they will be playing with a target in mind. But they are playing against Sri Lanka so it will be a tough match but at least they can control the net run rate if they win the toss and bowl first in the last match. And I think Australia will struggle a little bit in their last game,” Jaffer added.
