Sania Mirza has been appointed as the mentor of RCB Royal Challengers Bangalore for women’s premier league 2023, which will be played in Mumbai from 4th march to 26th march.
Mirza becomes the first Indian woman to win a major title after she finished with six across women’s double and is expected to join as the mentor for RCB after ATP Dubai opens, which is her last tournament.
When she was interviewed about her role, she said she was initially surprised to be offered the mentorship role but willingly accepted as she wanted to make young girls believe sports can be one of their career choices and make the next generation believe in themselves no matter what.
On Wednesday, the franchise also announced signing the Australian ben sawyer as their head coach. Sawyer was initially the head coach of the New Zealand women and was also a part of the women’s world cup winning side with Australia as their assistant coach last year.
Malolan Rangarajan, the former Tamil Nadu offspinner and a lead talent scout, has been named the assistant coach. In contrast, VR Vanitha, a former Indian batter, will become the fielding coach for the team.
The royal challenger Bangalore has put together a star-stunned lineup at the first auction, headlined by Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Sophie Devine, Dane van Niekerk, and Richa Ghosh.
The team will have their first match on march 5th, the second day of the tournament, against Delhi capitals at the Brabourne stadium.
