Shubman Gill Hospitalized in Chennai
Indian opener Shubman Gill was hospitalized in Chennai on Tuesday after his platelet count dropped. He was almost confirmed to play in India’s match against Pakistan on Saturday, but his hospitalization has put his participation in doubt.
Gill has been suffering from dengue fever since the Indian team arrived in Chennai for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He missed India’s opening match against Australia on Sunday, and was also ruled out of the second match against Afghanistan on Wednesday.
Gill’s platelet count dropped on Tuesday, and he was admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai. He is currently under the care of medical specialists, and his condition is being monitored. It is unclear how long Gill will be hospitalized, or when he will be able to return to the field. However, the BCCI is hopeful that he will be fit enough to play in India’s subsequent matches in the World Cup.
