The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 will start on 5th October 2023, and its finals will be played in the biggest cricket stadium in the world – Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19th November.
Asie from the city of Ahmedabad, other major cities that will be the venue for this mega event are Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai.
Ten teams will participate, having 48 matches and three knockouts covered in 46 days.
Usually, the schedule for the matches is released a year early. However, this year, the world governing body has been waiting for the BCCI to receive clearance from the Indian government.
Earlier, India had refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asian cup right before the world cup. The Pakistan cricket board have warned India that the men in green might also refuse to come to India, to which BCCI has told ICC at the quarterly meeting that the Indian government will be granting visas to the Pakistani players for the ODI World cup and ensured that there would be no issues regarding their permits.
Reports also state that tax exemptions have been asked.
One of the essential demand is visa clearance for the Pakistan team, which have yet to play in India other than in early 2013 at ICC.
The BCCI and ICC’s quarterly meetings in Dubai held last weekend have ensured the global bodies that the Indian government will clear the visas of the Pakistan Contingent. The exact updates have not been received yet.
The Tax exemption has been a part of the host’s Agreement the BCCI signed with ICC in 2014, in which three men’s events were awarded to India – the 2016 T20 World Cup, the 2018 Champions Trophy and the 2023 ODI World Cup. Nothing more has been updated in this regard.
