Despite scoring Virender Sehwag Slammed Shubman Gill Despite Scoring a Century
his sixth ODI century in 2023 against Australia, Shubman Gill received criticism from former India opener Virender Sehwag. Sehwag felt that Gill, who has one ODI double century to his name from earlier this year, missed out on another bumper score in Indore.
Gill reached his century in the 33rd over and got out an over later. Sehwag, who hit his only ODI double century at the same venue in 2011, believes that Gill should have scored 160-180 runs in the form he was in. He also pointed out that Gill had a lot of overs left when he got out and could have easily gotten to his second double century.
Sehwag’s criticism of Gill is not unfounded. The young opener has been in sensational form in 2023, scoring over 1200 runs in ODIs at an average of over 70. However, he has missed out on converting several of his fifties into hundreds and double centuries.
