ICC’s Action Against Harmanpreet Kaur:
As per the Reports, ICC has fined India women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur 50% of her match fee for smashing the stump with the bat and 25% for her behaviour during the third and final ODI against Bangladesh, and also 3-4 demerit points ( still in discussion) to her record for her behaviour during the match and post-match presentation, the ICC is yet to make an official statement.
What happened during the match?
Earlier in the match against Bangladesh Umpire had given Harmanpreet Kaur LBW out Nahida Akter delivery while trying to play a sweep shot, She was not satisfied with the umpire’s decision and out of anger she hit the stumps with her bat. Later, at the post-match ceremony, she called the standard of umpiring “pathetic” and also asked the umpires to be called to join the teams for the trophy ceremony.
What do the ICC rules say about the player’s misconduct during and after the match?
Level 1 offence: Warning/reprimand/or the imposition of a fine of up to US$ 2,000.
Level 2 offence: The imposition of a fine of up to US$ 5,000 and/or a period of suspension of up to two (2) Matches.
Level 3 offence: A suspension for a period of up to three(3)months during which period such Match Official or Match Official Support Personnel shall not officiate or otherwise participate in any Match.
Level 4 offence: A suspension for a period of up to a lifetime during which period such Match Official or Match Official Support Personnel shall not officiate or otherwise participate in a Match.
As per the ICC rules, 3 demerit points lead to a 50-100% fine or 1 Suspension Point and 4 demerit points within 24 months lead to 2 Suspension Points/ suspension in one Test or two ODIs or two 20Is.
Harmanpreet Past Offence:
Harmanpreet Kaur was last found guilty on 20-07-2017 during the WWC2017 Ind v Aus event at Derby she was reported by Umpires George, Raza, Holstock and Rusere After an attempted run out Harmanpreet abused her equipment by throwing her bat to the ground and was into level 1, Kaur admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction she was Reprimand for her offence.
Before the Bangladesh incident, Kaur had 0 Active Demerit points, IF Harmanpreet is given a 3-4 demerit point then she will become the first women player to accumulate a Level 2 breach of the ICC code of conduct.
