Shubman Gill loaded a coming-of-age double century to power India to 349 for 8 in the first ODI against New Zealand here on Wednesday. Gill bled class in his special 208 off 149 balls and batted through the innings with limited support from the other end. caption Rohit Sharma’s 34 off 38 was the 2nd-best secured of the innings.
The 23-year-old, who was accepted as the next something big in the Indian cricket ever since he showed his talent in the 2018 U-19 World Cup, placed 19 fours and 9 sixes, 6 of them coming after his 150. The double hundred, his maiden, was also his 2nd successive 3-digit score. Shubman achieved the mark with a 6 off Lockie Ferguson.

After India picked to bat, it was a good match between the openers and New Zealand fast bowler as the hosts achieve 52 for no loss in the first ten overs. The oddball was halting, making stroke-making tough.

Rohit once again promised a big century but was flattered to trick. His sixes off Henry Shipley, a lofted drive over cover, and a front-foot pick-up shot over the long leg emphasized his innings.
