New Rules for the IPL 2022 Mega Auction
In his remarks on the mega auction of IPL 2022, the official statement stated that there are no official clarifications regarding updates. However, it is expected that BCCI may make some changes to the existing rules to accommodate the inclusion of the two new franchises.
According to the new rules, it is now possible for a team to retain only three players at a time. One Indian player and two overseas players can be selected for the four-player team, or one Indian player and two overseas players can be chosen.
Moreover, the board has stated that all players will be sold from the auction table, except for the ones that will be retained.
To better understand, we will use the example of Mumbai Indians (MI). In order for the franchise to remain competitive, Rohit Sharma (captain), Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Trent Boult will all need to remain in the team. Those four players will not go to the auction table, but all the other cricket players of Mumbai will, and then the bidders will decide who their new franchise will be.
