After captain Rohit Sharma, Team India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has supported Ravichandran Ashwin’s suggestion of beginning ODI matches initially to lessen the effect of dew. He, Although, added that a call on the equal will have to be taken by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in discussion with the cricketing boards.
Talking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin suggested an 11:30 am start for the ODI World Cup matches to be held in India at the end of the year. At a recent press conference ahead of the primary one-dayer against New Zealand in Hyderabad, Rohit analyzed the same. He answered that he liked the idea, but added that the broadcasters choose the timing.
The same inquiry was put further to bowling coach Mhambrey on Friday, January 20. Describing the same opinion to Rohit, he replied:
“He (Ashwin) elevated a very valid point. Inclusive, dew does perform a part at some venues. It all looks on where you are performing, what scenario… When the ball does olden, it (the match) truly tilts onto the batting side. The spin is not there, the ball comes onto the wicket. It absolutely makes batting easy.
“That’s something that we can look into. The ICC and the board need to talk about it, with the other members connected. It’s a very important aspect, that can be looked into.”
Looking at #Bracewell & #Santner‘s innings today in #Hyderabad the suggestion of @ashwinravi99 to @BCCI for start of WC ODI matches at 11:30 am looks valid..Moment the dew starts falling the pitch virtually becomes road..Nothing for bowlers anyone can come & hit #INDvNZ #INDvsNZ

According to Ashwin’s attention, an 11:30 am beginning for the World Cup will not bring dew into the image at all. He also dismissed concerns over the timing, stating that fans would prioritize watching World Cup matches.
