Indian opener Shubman Gill has tested positive for dengue ahead of the ODI World Cup opener against Australia on October 8, 2023. The batter is likely to miss the first match due to illness.
Gill, who has been in red-hot form in recent months, is one of India’s most important players in the white-ball format. His absence will be a major blow to the team, especially against a strong Australian side.
The BCCI is yet to confirm a replacement for Gill, but KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are the two most likely candidates to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma. The Indian team will be hoping that Gill makes a quick recovery and is able to rejoin the squad later in the tournament.
