Former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi criticised Harmanpreet Kaur for her behaviour against the Umpire, he said these incidents are common and we have seen this in the past he continued to say that these incidents are not common in women’s cricket.
Earlier in the match against Bangladesh, the Umpire had given Harmanpreet Kaur LBW out Nahida Akter’s delivery while trying to play a sweep shot, She was not satisfied with the umpire’s decision and out of anger she hit the stumps with her bat. Later, at the post-match ceremony, she called the standard of umpiring “pathetic” and also asked the umpires to be called to join the teams for the trophy ceremony
Shahid Afridi said:
“This is not just India. We’ve seen these things in the past as well. However, we don’t see this often in women’s cricket. This was way too much, it was a big event under ICC. With the punishment, you set an example for the future. You can get aggressive in cricket; controlled aggression is good, but this was a bit too much,” Afridi told Samaa TV.
ICC’s Action against Harmanpreet Kaur:
As per the Reports, ICC has fined India women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur 50% of her match fee for smashing the stump with the bat and 25% for her behaviour during the third and final ODI against Bangladesh, and also 3-4 demerit points ( still in discussion) to her record for her behaviour during the match and post-match presentation, the ICC is yet to make an official statement.
