What is the 3m rule?
According to the rule, if a batter is given not out on the field after an lbw appeal and the decision is reviewed, and if the distance between the batter and the stumps at the point of impact is 3 metres or more, then the decision will be with the on-field umpire, regardless of whether the ball is ‘hitting’ the stumps.
What did the Officials Say?
Rohit Sharma was given LBW in the fifth over of the second innings by the third umpire overturning the on-field decision. The dismissal is clarified by the official broadcaster of TATA IPL 2023, where the officials have issued a clarification that the impact was 2.9 metres ahead of the stumps and not 3 metres affirming that the rule was not ignored.
