Speaking on the RCB podcast season 2, Virat Kohli shares his bond with MS Dhooni, whether on or behind the field.
”through out the phare, apart from Anushka (his wife, also an actress), who’s been the most significant source of strength because she’s been with me through this whole time, she’s seen me very closely as to how I felt and how things happened in the last few months. What’s interesting is that the only person who kind of, aside from my childhood coach who offered help and, you know, family, someone who has been in similar situations, understands the mindset and how things can affect a person and have reached out to me is MS Dhooni and for me,”He said.
MS Dhoni said to him – ‘When you are expected to be strong and looked at as a strong individual, people forget to ask you how you are doing. It hit home for me,’ and that was it.
Virat also added that he was always looked up to as someone confident who could endure any circumstances, and sometimes he had forgotten to take a few steps back and understand how he was doing. Dhooni knew precisely what had happened as he had himself been there. He reasoned with Virat, which helped him a lot.
It is difficult to get in touch with Dhooni as he is only sometimes on his phone. The fact that he reached out to Virat to check on him was a great motivation for him ‘that is such as blessing to know that I have such a bond and relationship with such a senior player, and its more like a friendship based on mutual trust and respect and he reached out to me he said
Besides discussing their friendship, Virat Kohli also spoke about his stint as the captain of RCB and India and how delinking from captaincy helped him migrate to a senior player’s role.
