    However, there can be only one best captain in the world, someone with the right leadership skills to lead their team to victory in the right direction. Over the years, the names of the best captain have been changing. 

    Here are the top 10 captains over the years –

    MS Dhoni  | India – (2007-2018)

    • 178 wins in 332 matches 
    • The moment the name MS Dhoni is mentioned, the next thing always is how great of a captain he is for Team India.
    • Ever since the beginning of his Captaincy, he has maintained a remarkable ability to remain calm and composed even under stressful situations.
    • Under MS Dhooni’s captaincy, India ranked the number 1 team on the test ranking for 2009-2010, along with the famous Champions Trophy in 2013.
    • For the Indian Premier League season, his Chennai team won thrice.
    • To this date, he is considered one of the best captains in the world. His fans and teammates often regard him as “the captain cool ”.

    Ricky Ponting | Australia – (2002-2012)

    • 220 wins in 324 matches 

    After MS Dhoni, he is considered one of the most Uncompromising Cricket players in the world .he is also known for his excellent fielding on global platforms. From 2002 to 2007, he was undefeatable and had a record of unbeatable 41 international centuries in all three formats.

    Under his captaincy, Australia won two world cups, -2003 and 2007, without losing a match. 

    Stephen Fleming | New Zealand – (1997-2007)

    Stephen Paul Fleming is a New Zealand Coach and former New Zealand Cricket Team captain. He is also currently the head coach of Chennai Super Kings for the IPL season. He is known for his outstanding batting and is considered one of the most incredible batters ever.

    Under his captaincy, New Zealand won their first and only ICC KnockOut trophy in 2000. 

    Graeme Smith | South Africa – (2003-2014)

    • 163 wins in 286 matches 

    Graeme Smith is a well-built muscular cricketer known for his ability to smash the leather off the balls, something every cricket enthusiast remembers.

    He became the captain at the very young age of 22, making him the youngest captain of South Africa.

    He is also the only captain who has played 100 test matches and has 53 wins under him. 

    Allan Border | Australia – (1984-1994)

    • 139 wins in 271 matches 

    Allan Robert Border was the captain of the Australian Cricket team and led his team to win the 1987 world cup. His nickname was A.B . He held a record of 156 test matches which another Australian, Steve Waugh, later broke.

    He also hit 27 centuries in his test career and retired as Australia’s most capped player and leading run-scorer in both formats – ODIs and Test.

    Arjuna Ranatunga | Sri Lanka – (1988-1999)

    Deshamanya Arjuna Ranatunga is a former Sri Lankan captain who now m

    minister of transport and civil Aviation. 

    He is responsible for bringing out the Sri Lankan team from underdog status to one of the leading forces in the cricket world. 

    He is known for Nurturing young cricketers like Praveen Jayawickrama during their year age to take the game seriously. 

    Also He is also the winner of Observer Sri Lanka Schoolboy Cricketer of 1980 and 1982, making him the only person to receive this award two times.

    Virat Kohli | India – (2013-2022)

    • 135 wins and 213 matches 

    Virat Kohli is an Indian cricketer who was the former captain of the Indian men’s cricket team. He plays as a right-handed batsman for Royal Challenger Bangalore in IPL. His fans and fellow mates often regard him as the greatest batsman of all time.

    Also He holds the record of scoring the most runs in T20 International, and in IPL . And the best part he was named the male cricketer of the decade by the international cricket council. 

    In 2014, Kohli was handed over the captaincy of test reigned when MS Dhooni announced his retirement.

    However, under Kohli’s captaincy, India did not win any ICC trophy, however, these overall captaincy records are the dream of any captain.

    Steve Waugh | Australia – (1997-2004)

    • 108 wins and 163 matches 

    Stephen Rodger Waugh is an Australian former international cricketer and twin brother of cricketer Mark Waugh.one of the greatest cricketers of his time.

    Under his captaincy, Australia got fifteen out of their record of sixteen .consecutive test wins  

    He is considered the greatest captain when ODI and tests are considered.

    He had a winning ratio of 72%.  also the most capped test cricket player, however, the record was later broken by Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. 

    Because of his back issues, he shifted his focus to batting only and became one of the thirteen players to have more than 10,000 test runs. 

    Eoin Morgan | England – (2011-2022)

    • 118 wins in 198 matches 

    Eion Joseph Gerard Morgan is an Irish and English former cricketer and a current commentator. 

    He captained the England Cricket team from 2015 to 2022. 

    Under his captaincy, England won their first ICC Cricket world cup in 2019 .he is the only cricket captain to have scored more than 4 ODI centuries.

    In March 2021, Morgan became the first male cricketer for England to play in 100 T20Is in their third match against India.

    Kane Williamson | New Zealand -(2012-2013)

    Kane Stuart Williamson is a New Zealand cricketer who is currently the captain of the New Zealand National team in limited-overs cricket. 

    Williamson became the all-time leading runscorer for new zealand during their test cricket. He is a right-handed batsman and an occasional off-spin bowler. 

    Under his captaincy, New Zealand gets to the finals of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He was nominated for the Sir Garfield Sobers Awards for ICC male Cricketer of the Decade award. and was awarded the test cricketer of the Decade.
